     George Newsome was born in 1770. He was the son of Joseph Newsome and Elizabeth Townend. George Newsome was baptized on 5 June 1770 at Batley.
He married Jane Blakeley, daughter of John Blakeley and Sarah Swallow, on 28 November 1790 at Batley witnesses were David Stubley and Jonathan Akroyd.1
George Newsome married Hannah Blakeley, daughter of John Blakeley and Sarah Swallow, on 23 September 1800 at Rothwell.
George Newsome, with Benjamin Law and John Sheard, was in partnership with a London woollen draper and warehouseman James Gunnis, who probably acted as their agent. In 1808 Law withdrew from the partnership.2
In 1818 George Newsome, once in the partnership with Benjamin Law from which the latter withdrew in 1808, is said to have united with Joseph Jubb and John Fox, Phineas Fox and John Burnley to construct a rag machine.3
In the census of 6 June 1841 he was listed as the head of household at Havercroft, Batley, as a cloth manufacturer. With him are his grandaughter Jane with husband Thomas Rockford and their son John.4
George Newsome died on 3 May 1845; aged 75, described as manufacturer. He was buried on 6 May 1845 at Batley aged 76 years. The masonic symbol on his grave is an interesting early example.5,1

In the census of 6 June 1841 he was listed as the head of household at Havercroft, Batley, as a fulling miller. His age is given as 35, and I think this is misleading, as I believe this was Abraham son of George born in 1799. Ages given in later censuses correspond with this.
Abraham Newsome married Ann Daughtry, daughter of Rodger Daughtry, on 5 October 1845 at Dewsbury.3
In the census of 7 April 1861 he was listed as the head of household at Bank Foot, Batley, as a cloth fuller aged 62.4
