     John Fox was born in 1834. He was the son of David Fox and Elizabeth Midgley. John Fox married Grace Senior Heppleston, daughter of Robert Heppleston and Ellen Senior, in 1859.1,2

He was the son of Phineas Fox and Jane Blakeley. John Fox was baptized on 2 April 1786 at Batley.1
He married Martha Richardson on 26 December 1806 at Batley.1
In 1815 Joseph Parker was apprenticed to John Fox as a boy to learn the manufacturing business. An account given by Edwin Law describes this apprenticeship as to learn the shoddy trade.2
In 1818John Fox is said to have united with Joseph Jubb and Phineas Fox, John Burnley and George Newsome to construct a rag machine.3
In 1823 John Fox was was one of those mentioned in the fourth part of deed of 1823 as in occupation of "that large and commodious scribbling and fulling mill lately erected" -------this on a piece of land near Rouse Mill , and mentioning appurtenances and rights to draw water from Wooler Beck to work a steam engine or engines."i,e, Hick Lane Mill.

From around 1837 Phineas Fox was in a partnership with Joseph Parker , Michael Spedding and James Hall and Leeds cloth merchant Matthew Johnson. The partnership, styled Hall, Johnson, Spedding & Co are said to have been in business at Purlwell Mill.2
In the census of 6 June 1841 he was listed as the head of household at Soothill Lane, Soothill, as a clothier. Also present are Mary Fox, aged 15, relationship unknown, and an apprentice, William (Matthews?).3
Phineas Fox died on 19 February 1847; aged 57.4

     William Dean was born circa 1820 at Batley.
William Dean was unofficially adopted by James Hall and Martha Hall née Hirst, his aunt. William Dean was the son of William Dean and Hannah Hirst. William Dean was baptized on 18 September 1822 at Batley aged 2.1
He married Sarah Spedding, daughter of Michael Spedding and Hannah Ineson, on 22 January 1838.2
In the census of 6 June 1841 he was listed as the head of household at Purlwell, Batley, as a woollen manufacturer. Also with the family are Jane Mayman, 15, a female servant, and Grace Taylor, 13, a woollen labourer.3
In the census of 30 March 1851 he was listed as the head of household at Purlwell, Batley, as a woollen manufacturer employing 24 persons.4
William Dean was said to have left Purlwell Mill to his nephew James Hall.
In the census of 7 April 1861 he was listed as the head of household at Purlwell, Batley, a landed proprietor, which is then crossed out and wool mill owner substituted.5
In the census of 23 June 1870 he was listed as the head of household at Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, as a woollen manufacturer.6
William Dean died on 8 September 1910.
