He was to be found in the census of 5 April 1891 at Hazelwood Hydropathic Establishment, Grange over Sands, apparently taking the waters.4
In 1896 brothers John and David Stubley were in charge of the Batley mills following the death of their father in that year.

John Stubley was elected Mayor in 1909 on the enlargement of the Borough, by the inclusion therein of Soothill Upper, an outlying district, and for a second term in 1910-11, the Coronation Year of George V.7
He was Elected a Batley Alderman in 1910.5
He was Member of National Liberal, London, and Batley Liberal Clubs.5
He died on 21 April 1911 at age 61.
