     Matthew Burnley was born on 30 January 1774 at Batley. He was the son of Michael Burnley and Ruth Blakeley. Matthew Burnley was baptized on 5 February 1774 at Batley.
He married Hannah Hall, daughter of Joseph Hall and Ann Turner, on 16 January 1800 at Batley.¹

     Hannah Hall was born on 13 November 1776 at Batley. She was the daughter of Joseph Hall and Ann Turner. Hannah Hall was baptized on 25 December 1776 at Batley.¹
She married Matthew Burnley, son of Michael Burnley and Ruth Blakeley, on 16 January 1800 at Batley.¹
Hannah Hall died.

     Ruth Burnley was born on 11 May 1801. She was the daughter of Matthew Burnley and Hannah Hall. Ruth Burnley was baptized on 16 August 1801 at Batley.

     Matthew Burnley was born on 15 December 1804 at Soothill. He was the son of Matthew Burnley and Hannah Hall. Matthew Burnley married Elizabeth Brewerton on 22 July 1827 at Tong.¹
In the census of 1851 he was listed as the head of household at Providence Street, Batley, as a spinner of woollen.²
In the census of 7 April 1861 he was listed as the head of household at Cobden St, Batley, as a woollen handloom weaver.³

     Elizabeth Brewerton was born in 1808 at Dewsbury. She married Matthew Burnley, son of Matthew Burnley and Hannah Hall, on 22 July 1827 at Tong.¹
In the census of 1851 Elizabeth Burnley was listed at Providence Street, Batley, as wife of Matthew Burnley.²
In the census of 7 April 1861 Elizabeth Burnley was listed at Cobden St, Batley, as wife of Matthew Burnley.³

     Michael Burnley was born on 7 August 1808. He was the son of Matthew Burnley and Hannah Hall. Michael Burnley was baptized on 19 September 1808 at Batley.¹

     Mary Hannah Burnley was born in 1811 at Batley. She was the daughter of Matthew Burnley and Hannah Hall. Mary Hannah Burnley was baptized on 20 January 1811 at Batley.¹
She married David Barker on 20 June 1830 at Halifax.²

     David Barker died ?unknown. He was born ?unknown. He married Mary Hannah Burnley, daughter of Matthew Burnley and Hannah Hall, on 20 June 1830 at Halifax.¹

     Ann Turner was born in 1746. She was the daughter of Joseph Turner and Rachel Wrangby. Ann Turner was baptized on 1 January 1746/47 at Old Chapel, Morley.¹
She married Joseph Hall, son of Joseph Hall and Dorothy Bottomley, on 27 November 1769 at Batley witnesses were Abram Simon and John Turner.²

     Abraham Burnley was born on 16 May 1777. He was the son of Michael Burnley and Ruth Blakeley. Abraham Burnley was baptized on 25 May 1777 at Batley.¹

     John Burnley was born on 14 July 1779. He was the son of Michael Burnley and Ruth Blakeley. John Burnley was baptized on 25 July 1779 at Batley.
He married Elizabeth Blakeley, daughter of John Blakeley and Sarah Swallow, on 2 November 1801 at Batley witnesses Abraham Blakeley and George Newsome.¹
John Burnley according to a newspaper account, set up a rag machine in his barn, worked by donkey power, and in competition with Benjamin Law's early experiments.²
Another account says that it was in 1818John Burnley that he got together with Joseph Jubb and John Fox, Phineas Fox and George Newsome to construct a rag machine.³

Hick Well Mill

Willans tells us that a few years after Hick Lane Mill was built,
"Mr John Burnley, an enterprising Batley tradesman, built another mill not far from the Hick Lane Mill, and carried on a large trade in the Batley special line, such as druggets, pilots, &c., his sons going into the business as well."⁴
John Burnley made a will on 24 December 1835; mentions wife Elizabeth and sons John, Abraham, Samuel and Jacob, the latter still a minor.Also mentions daughter Fanny, wife of Robert Scargill and mentions nephew Matthew, son of his brother Matthew, which helps confirm his identity.⁵
He died on 2 January 1836aged 56.
He was buried on 6 January 1836 at Batley.¹
The death of John Burnley in 1836 saw his heirs pulling out of the Hick Lane Mill , leaving Michael Spedding, Michael Sheard, Joseph Jubb and Phineas and David Fox.⁶

     Elizabeth Blakeley was born on 5 March 1780. She was the daughter of John Blakeley and Sarah Swallow. Elizabeth Blakeley was baptized on 2 April 1780 at Batley.
She married John Burnley, son of Michael Burnley and Ruth Blakeley, on 2 November 1801 at Batley witnesses Abraham Blakeley and George Newsome.¹
Elizabeth Blakeley died in 1842 at Batley. She was buried on 19 January 1842 ; aged 61.¹

     Betty Burnley was born on 12 March 1781. She was the daughter of Michael Burnley and Ruth Blakeley. Betty Burnley was baptized on 21 March 1781 at Batley.

     Ellen Burnley was born on 13 March 1783. She was the daughter of Michael Burnley and Ruth Blakeley. Ellen Burnley was baptized on 16 March 1783.

     Sarah A. Burnley was born in 1828. She was the daughter of Matthew Burnley and Elizabeth Brewerton. Sarah A. Burnley was baptized on 1 June 1828 at Parish Church, Batley.¹

     William Burnley was born in 1839. He was the son of Matthew Burnley and Elizabeth Brewerton.

     Betty Gill was the daughter of John Gill. Betty Gill married James Blakeley, son of Benjamin Blakeley and Sarah Johnson, on 17 October 1758 at Batley.¹

     Benjamin Blakeley was born in 1775. He was the son of James Blakeley and Betty Gill. Benjamin Blakeley was baptized on 22 January 1775 at Batley.

     James Blakeley was born on 28 May 1777. He was the son of James Blakeley and Betty Gill. James Blakeley was baptized on 13 July 1777 at Batley.
He married Hannah Chappel on 14 August 1801 at Batley.

     Phineas Blakeley was born in 1783 at Batley. He was the son of James Blakeley and Betty Gill. Phineas Blakeley was baptized on 18 September 1783 at Batley.
He died in 1785 at Batley.

     Hannah Chappel married James Blakeley, son of James Blakeley and Betty Gill, on 14 August 1801 at Batley.

     Mark Blakeley was born in 1729. He was the son of Caleb Blakeley and Hannah Allen. Mark Blakeley was baptized on 10 August 1729 at Batley.
