Richard Shepley was born in 1591 at Mirfield. He was the son of Thomas Shepley and Jane Hepworth. Richard Shepley was baptized on 26 January 1590/91 at Mirfield.1

Richard Shepley made a will on 18 October 1631; in which he describes himself as a tanner. A servant of Richard Shepley's was buried on 4 November 1631.1 He died in 1631 at Mirfield of the plague, along with "his littell infant" They seem to have been the last of 130 victims of this outbreak of plague, which had also claimed his parents-in-law, said to have been brought to Mirfield by a poor stranger who died there in April of that year.1 He was buried on 19 November 1631 at Mirfield.1

I think it likely that Joshua Shepley married Margaret Burgh on 4 July 1655 at St Peter's, Leeds, We know from Joshua's grave that his wife was Margaret, and the date fits well.2

Henry Wildsmith

Henry Wildsmith was brother-in-law of Joshua Carter. He was born circa 1827 at Mirfield. He married Nancy Carter, daughter of Joshua Carter and Ann (?), on 27 August 1848.1
He was listed in the census of 30 March 1851 at Up Lane, Batley, shop keeper of clothes.2
On 10 May 1860 Henry Wildsmith and Joshua Carter together with Joshua's son James Joshua were granted a patent:-
"for improvements in extracting wool or other animal fibres from combinations of wool and cotton or mixtures of other animal and vegetable fibrous substances or fabrics, and in the machinery or apparatus employed therein"
This was a form of the process known as carbonising.3
He was listed in the census of 7 April 1861 at Victoria St, Batley, Contractor and Shoddy Manufacturer.4
Henry Wildsmith died on 25 August 1870 at Carr House, Birstall; aged 44 years.5
