In the census of 6 June 1841 he was listed as aged 20 the son of Ann Senior at Skelmanthorpe.2
He was listed in the census of 30 March 1851 at Park Gate, Skelmanthorpe, as a widower, a fancy hand loom weaver aged 33.3

He was buried on 26 May 1806 at Batley.1 Michael Sheard records a gravestone recording the burials of some of Joseph's children as follows:-
"Near this place were interred the Bodies of Four children of Joseph and Elizabeth Pyrah of Purlwell in Batley, John died on the 30th May 1778 in his Infancy, Hannah died on the 21st Day of June 1794 in the 2nd year of her age, Joseph died on the 27th Day of March 1799 in the 20th year of his age Maria died on the 21st Day of June 1799 in her Infancy."3
