William Colbeck married Hannah Armitage, daughter of William Armitage and Mary Farrar, on 8 June 1829 at Batley.1
In the census of 6 June 1841 he was listed as the head of household at Spa Hill, Batley, as a clothier.2
He was listed in the census of 30 March 1851 at Well Street, Cripplegate, London, as a merchant, lodging in the home of James Weyman, a porter, as is another merchant.3,4
William Colbeck died on 2 July 1862.5
He died in 1862, but Elizabeth Lancaster understands this photograph, with the name of a photographer in Philadelphia, to be of him, and that of his wife is certainly Hannah by comparison with a later one of her. William is known to have travelled on business, but we feel this is a rather early date for the photo. Any ideas? could it be a copy done in Philadelphia later of some images done by an early technique?
