     Mary Ellen Burnley was born on 17 May 1850.¹ She was the daughter of Samuel Burnley and Betty Knowles. In the census of 30 March 1851 she was listed as aged 10 months the daughter of Samuel Burnley at Havercroft, Batley.²

     Abraham Burnley was born on 24 January 1812.¹ He was the son of John Burnley and Elizabeth Blakeley.¹ Abraham Burnley was baptized on 4 February 1812 at Salem Chapel, Dewsbury.¹
He married Sarah Jackson, daughter of Benjamin Jackson, on 11 July 1838 at Bramham Assumed to be the right marriage in that Abraham married a Sarah, birthplace Leeds, and some of children have middle name Jackson.^2,3
In the census of 6 June 1841 he was listed as the head of household at Havercroft, Batley, as a woollen manufacturer.⁴
1844 saw Abraham Burnley and George Sheard representing Batley interests on the provisional Committee of the proposed Leeds, Dewsbury and Manchester Junction Railway, chaired by Leeds manufacturer John Gott.⁵
In 1845 Abraham Burnley was pulled out of a partnership with his brothers Samuel and Jacob.⁶
In the census of 30 March 1851 he was listed as the head of household as a wool stapler.⁷
In the census of 7 April 1861 he was listed as the head of household at Albert Street, Batley, as a woollen and rag merchant, a widower.⁸

     Jacob Burnley was born on 4 August 1822.¹ He was the son of John Burnley and Elizabeth Blakeley. Jacob Burnley was baptized on 18 September 1822 at Salem chapel, Dewsbury.¹
He married Mary Sutcliffe Candelet in 1845.²
In the census of 30 March 1851 he was listed as the head of household at 87 Wellington Road North, Heaton Norris, Stockport, as an agent for woollen manufactory.³
In the census of 7 April 1861 he was listed as the head of household as a woollen manufacturer aged 38, living next to his brother Samuel.⁴
In the census of 2 April 1871 he was listed as the head of household at 24 Lord Street, Batley, as a retired manufacturer. One servant is kept.⁵

Abraham Gledhill married Matilda Hepworth, daughter of Sarah Hepworth, on 16 May 1853 (I would thank a descendant of Abraham and Matilda for information on this family).¹
In the census of 7 April 1861 he was listed as the head of household at Howley Park, Morley, as a woollen weaver.⁴

This was the Park of Howley Hall, once home of the Saviles, but blown up around 1730.
Whilst such ruins as were left above ground gave little indication of the house's former grandeur, cellars remained, and in doing a little towards clearing these, Abraham Gledhill found a quantity of animal bones locally supposed to be the remains of a large bear said to have been kept at the Hall, and also, and this is still in the possession of a descendant, a silver coin bearing the inscription "Guglielmus III.,1697."^1,5

     Sarah Gledhill was born on 19 January 1791.^1,2 She was the daughter of John Gledhill and Susanna Newsome. Sarah Gledhill was baptized on 6 March 1791 at Batley.²

     William Gledhill was born in 1793.¹ He was the son of John Gledhill and Susanna Newsome. William Gledhill was baptized on 24 February 1793 at Batley.²
In the census of 6 June 1841 he was listed as aged 45 the son of John Gledhill at New Batley, Batley.³
William Gledhill is said to have had a bobbin wheel and one loom at the Clerk Green Mill.⁴
In the census of 30 March 1851 he was listed as the head of household at New Street, Batley, as a woollen bobbin winder.⁵

     Tabitha Gledhill was born on 21 February 1795.¹ She was the daughter of John Gledhill and Susanna Newsome. Tabitha Gledhill was baptized on 5 April 1795 at Batley.²

     Elizabeth Gledhill was born on 21 March 1797.¹ She was the daughter of John Gledhill and Susanna Newsome. Elizabeth Gledhill was baptized on 7 May 1797 at Batley.²
She died on 22 June 1806 at age 9.¹

     John Gledhill was born on 8 June 1799.¹ He was the son of John Gledhill and Susanna Newsome.

     Hannah Gledhill was born on 26 July 1803.^1,2 She was the daughter of John Gledhill and Susanna Newsome. Hannah Gledhill was baptized on 18 September 1803 at Batley.²
She married Matthew Riley on 29 May 1828 at Batley.²

In the census of 30 March 1851 she was listed as as a chair (char?) woman the sister of William Gledhill.⁴

     Thomas Gledhill was born on 2 March 1806.¹ He was the son of John Gledhill and Susanna Newsome.¹ Thomas Gledhill was baptized on 20 April 1806 at Batley.²
He married Ellen Keighley, daughter of Matthew Keighley and Grace (?), on 16 August 1824 at Batley.²
Thomas Gledhill was Thomas is thought to have been a shareholder in Clerk Green Mill, and in 1841 was listed as in partnership there with Mark Terry, Robert Brearley the elder and sons Robert and Daniel, Henry Hall and James Redfearn as Brearley Terry and Company, scribblers and fullers.³

     Elizabeth Gledhill was born on 22 October 1809.¹ She was the daughter of John Gledhill and Susanna Newsome.¹ Elizabeth Gledhill was baptized on 24 December 1809 at Batley on the same day as her niece Margaret Gledhill.^2,1

     Matilda Hepworth was born on 2 January 1829 at Mirfield. She was the daughter of Sarah Hepworth.
Matilda Hepworth married Abraham Gledhill, son of Joseph Gledhill and Sarah Briggs, on 16 May 1853 (I would thank a descendant of Abraham and Matilda for information on this family).¹
