In the census of 6 June 1841 he was listed as the head of household at Havercroft Lane End, Batley, as a clothier.2
Christopher Stubley and his wife may have died between 1841 and 1851 as by the latter date his children are living with relatives, but Christopher could be the widower aged 53 living at Spa Hill in 1851. He died in 1866. He was buried on 7 January 1866 at Batley.3,1

     Richard Smith was born on 27 November 1776 at Batley. He was the son of George Smith and Rachel Chappel. Richard Smith was baptized on 12 January 1777 at Batley.
He married Grace Hall, daughter of Thomas Hall and Frances Allott, on 25 July 1798 at Batley witnessed by Robert Brierley and John Chadwick.1
In 1829 Richard Smith was listed as a flushing and drugget manufacturer at Clerk Green.2

He made a will on 15 August 1837 in which he bequeathed to his dear wife Grace and elder sons Joseph and John all his parts, shares and interest in Purlwell Mill, with the land, warehouses and outbuildings belonging thereto. The mill was described as being in the occupation of Messrs Hall, Hirst & Co and others or their undertenants. Any debts having being settled the income was to go to Grace for life, then these shares were to be sold and the proceeds divided among his children. The rest of his estate was to go to Grace absolutely.Witnesses were Thomas Dean, Samuel Strafford and Henry Hall.3
He died on 16 August 1837 at Batley. He was buried on 18 August 1837.1
His gravestone in Batley churchyard mentions:-

Descendants of Joseph Hall
     Grace Hall was born on 15 October 1780 at Batley. She was the daughter of Thomas Hall and Frances Allott. Grace Hall was baptized on 12 November 1780 at Batley.1
She married Richard Smith, son of George Smith and Rachel Chappel, on 25 July 1798 at Batley witnessed by Robert Brierley and John Chadwick.1
In 1835 Grace Smith inherited from her father two freehold cottages at Clerk Green, with a frontstead and pigcote, occupied in 1832 by George Sheard and James Fozard. She was, however, to pay to the executors the sum of £20.
In the census of 6 June 1841 she, widowed since 1837, was listed as the head of household at Clerk Green, Batley, as a woollen labourer.2
She made a will on 7 July 1849 at which time she described herself as in moderately good health. Her eldest son Joseph was to have her clock, whilst grandaughter Elizabeth Stubley was to have her bedstead and bedding. The other furniture was to be shared between her children. Should any of her children wish to buy the freehold houses she owned they were to have the first option, but at a fair valuation, otherwise they were to be auctioned , the proceeds to be divided between her children.

In the census of 30 March 1851 she was listed as the head of household at Clerk Green, Batley, an Annuitant, with grandaughter Elizabeth Stubley living with her, and with Lydia Parr, a general servant, aged 12.3
On 8 July 1851 Grace made a codicil to her will, bequeathing her feather bed to her son William on condition that he give a flock bed to her granddaugher Elizabeth in lieu. Elizabeth was to receive the curtains from her bedstead, and the estate was to provide her with a good suit of black dress and handsome silk "visit."
Grace Smith died on 13 July 1851 at Clerk Green, Batley, at age 70.
She was buried on 15 July 1851 at Batley.1

     Joseph Smith was born on 30 January 1800. He was the son of Richard Smith and Grace Hall. Joseph Smith was baptized on 23 February 1800 at Batley.1
He married Maria Blakeley, daughter of Abraham Blakeley and Martha Colbeck, on 6 June 1819 at Batley witnessed by John Blakeley, Jo.Chadwick. He writes, she makes her mark.1
In the census of 6 June 1841 he was listed as the head of household at Havercroft, Batley, a woollen carder.2
Grace Smith's will of 1849 stated that her clock was to go to Joseph, her eldest son.
In the census of 30 March 1851 he was listed as the head of household at Commercial St, Batley, as a spinner (woollen).3
In the census of 7 April 1861 he was listed as the head of household at New Street, Batley, a woollen spinner.4

In the census of 6 June 1841 Rachel Spurr was listed at Clerk Green, Batley, as wife of John Spurr.2

Rachel Spurr died in 1856. She was buried on 11 February 1856 at Batley ; as of Clerk Green, aged 53.1
