     Joshua Stubley was born in 1774 at Batley. He was the son of Mark Stubley and Sally Pyrah. Joshua Stubley was baptized on 22 May 1774 at Parish Church, Batley.¹
He married Mary Blackburn, daughter of John Blackburn, on 28 April 1793 at Batley.¹
Joshua Stubley died in 1841 at Batley. He was buried on 9 May 1841 at Batley ; aged 67.¹

     Mary Blackburn was the daughter of John Blackburn. Mary Blackburn married Joshua Stubley, son of Mark Stubley and Sally Pyrah, on 28 April 1793 at Batley.¹

     Sarah Stubley was born on 1 December 1793. She was the daughter of Joshua Stubley and Mary Blackburn. Sarah Stubley was baptized on 26 January 1794 at Parish Church, Batley.¹
She married Samuel Newsome, son of Abraham Newsome and Hannah Sheard, on 12 July 1815 at Parish Church, Batley.¹
Sarah Stubley died on 4 December 1836 at Batley at age 43. She was buried on 7 December 1836 at Batley.¹

     Mark Stubley was born on 11 May 1795. He was the son of Joshua Stubley and Mary Blackburn. Mark Stubley was baptized on 7 June 1795 at Parish Church, Batley.¹
He died in 1811. He was buried on 18 May 1811 at Batley.¹

     Elizabeth Stubley was born in 1798. She was the daughter of Joshua Stubley and Mary Blackburn. Elizabeth Stubley was baptized on 17 September 1798 at Parish Church, Batley.¹

     Joshua Stubley was born on 25 March 1801. He was the son of Joshua Stubley and Mary Blackburn. Joshua Stubley was baptized on 19 April 1801 at Parish Church, Batley.¹
He died in 1802. He was buried on 27 June 1802 at Batley.¹

     Rachel Stubley was born on 5 January 1803. She was the daughter of Joshua Stubley and Mary Blackburn. Rachel Stubley was baptized on 13 March 1803 at Batley.¹
In the census of 6 June 1841 she was listed as the head of household at New Batley as a rag sorter.²
She married James Thurman, son of James Thurman and Nancy Joy, in 1850.
In the census of 30 March 1851 Rachel Thurman was listed at Up Lane, Batley, as wife of James Thurman.³
Rachel Thurman died in 1858. She was buried on 16 May 1858 at Batley ; aged 55.¹

     John Stubley was born on 20 September 1804 at Batley. He was the son of Joshua Stubley and Mary Blackburn. John Stubley was baptized on 18 November 1804 at Parish Church, Batley.¹
He married Mary Redfearn, daughter of Thomas Redfearn and Mary Hall, on 13 October 1828 at Batley witnesses Joseph Chadwick and Joshua Drake.¹
In the census of 6 June 1841 he was listed as the head of household at Clerk Green, Batley, as a woollen manufacturer.²
In the census of 30 March 1851 he was listed as the head of household at Clerk Green, Batley, as a Rag Dealer.³
John Stubley died on 27 April 1851 at age 46. He was buried on 30 April 1851 at Batley ; aged 46.¹

     Ann Stubley was born on 19 December 1806. She was the daughter of Joshua Stubley and Mary Blackburn. Ann Stubley was baptized on 22 February 1807 at Parish Church, Batley.¹
She married John Burnley, son of Christopher Burnley and Mary Brook, on 27 March 1826 at Batley witnesses J Chadwick and Joseph Webster.¹
In the census of 30 March 1851 Ann Burnley was listed at New Street, Batley, as wife of John Burnley.²

He died in 1815. He was buried on 23 March 1815 at Batley.¹

     William Stubley was born on 20 March 1812. He was the son of Joshua Stubley and Mary Blackburn. William Stubley was baptized on 20 April 1812 at Parish Church, Batley.¹

     Mark Stubley was born in 1745 at Batley. He was the son of Thomas Stubley and Sarah Williamson. Mark Stubley was baptized on 19 May 1745 at Parish Church, Batley, as son of Thos Stubley, clothier.¹
He married Sally Pyrah, daughter of Joshua Pyrah and Sarah Beaumont, on 6 January 1765 at Batley witnesses John Hepworth, John Blakeley.
Mark Stubley together with his brother could have witnessed the marriage of Hannah Stubley and Jeremiah Chadwick on 4 September 1780 at Batley as uncles.² Mark Stubley died in 1805.    And was buried on 18 September 1805 at Batley.¹

     Sarah Law was born on 22 December 1796 at Batley. She was the daughter of Benjamin Law and Rachel Stubley. Sarah Law was baptized on 2 April 1797 at Batley.
She died circa 1797; in infancy, recorded on mother's gravestone.

     David Stubley was born in 1767 at Batley. He was the son of Mark Stubley and Sally Pyrah. David Stubley was baptized on 1 November 1767 at Batley.¹
He married Ann Colbeck, daughter of John Colbeck and Mary Walker, on 11 January 1786 at Batley.¹
In the census of 6 June 1841 he was listed as the head of household at Purlwell, Batley, as a woollen labourer aged 70.²
David Stubley died in 1846. He was buried on 19 July 1846 at Purlwell, Batley.¹

     Mark Stubley was born in 1769 at Batley. He was the son of Mark Stubley and Sally Pyrah. Mark Stubley was baptized on 25 December 1769 at Parish Church, Batley.¹
He died in 1791. He was buried on 22 May 1791 at Parish Church, Batley.¹

     Abigail Stubley was born in 1772. She was the daughter of Mark Stubley and Sally Pyrah. Abigail Stubley was baptized on 22 March 1772 at Parish Church, Batley.¹
She married John Walker on 2 June 1791 at Parish Church, Batley, witnesses John North, James Walker.¹
Abigail Stubley died in 1794. She was buried on 25 July 1794 ; as wife of John Walker of Batley.¹

     Sarah Stubley was born in 1776. She was the daughter of Mark Stubley and Sally Pyrah. Sarah Stubley was baptized on 7 April 1776 at Parish Church, Batley.¹
She married Joseph Brooke, son of William Brook and Elizabeth Knowles, on 19 January 1795 at Parish Church, Batley, witnesses George Sheard, Joshua Stubley.¹
Sarah Stubley died; possibly the Sarah Brook who died January 1797.¹

     Nathaniel Stubley was born on 9 December 1777 at Batley. He was the son of Mark Stubley and Sally Pyrah. Nathaniel Stubley was baptized on 1 February 1778 at Batley.¹
He married Frances Heaton, daughter of Joseph Heaton, on 10 January 1803 at Batley witnesses William Lister, John Chadwick.¹
In the census of 6 June 1841 he was listed as the head of household at Havercroft, Batley, as a woollen weaver.²
Nathaniel Stubley died in 1847 at Batley. He was buried on 1 June 1847 at Batley ; aged 70.¹

     George Stubley was born on 15 March 1780. He was the son of Mark Stubley and Sally Pyrah. George Stubley was baptized on 16 April 1780 at Parish Church, Batley.¹
He began military service in July 1799 as a private in the 35th Infantry.² He received a gun shot wound in the head in action. This must have been in a campaign of which there is a good account on a website about the 35th Foot. 21 April 1807 Egypt.³
He ended military service in November 1818 at Brighton; discharged in consideration of length of service, his conduct described as good. In appearance he was 5'8" tall with brown hair and hazel eyes.⁴
He married Hannah Lister, daughter of Jacob Lister and Sarah Stubley, on 20 May 1819 at Parish Church, Batley, witnesses Benjamin Sheard and Joshua Stubley.¹
On 3 August 1840 George, his first wife having died in February, and now described as a widower of full age, son of Mark Stubley, married Elizabeth Micklethwaite, daughter of Daniel Dyson, at Batley She was married as Elizabeth Micklethwaite, widow, daughter of Daniel Dyson, weaver. Witnesses were Thomas Stogdale and Joshua Porrit.¹
In the census of 6 June 1841 he was listed as the head of household at Havercroft, Batley, as a weaver aged 60.⁵
George Stubley appeared as a Chelsea Pensioner aged 72 on the census of 30 March 1851 in the household of his daughter and son-in-law Jesse Idal.⁶
George Stubley died in 1852 at Havercroft, Batley. He was buried on 18 February 1852 at Batley ; a very faint record on fiche, which I think is he, for whom the age is right.¹

     Christopher Stubley was born in 1783. He was the son of Mark Stubley and Sally Pyrah. Christopher Stubley was baptized on 30 March 1783 at Parish Church, Batley.¹

     Samuel Stubley was born on 9 January 1787.¹ He was the son of Mark Stubley and Sally Pyrah. Samuel Stubley was baptized on 23 January 1787 at Batley.¹

     Elizabeth Stubley was born in 1765 at Batley. She was the daughter of Mark Stubley and Sally Pyrah. Elizabeth Stubley was baptized on 1 December 1765 at Parish Church, Batley.¹
She died in 1773 at Batley. She was buried on 9 March 1773.¹

     Thomas Stubley was born in 1703. He was the son of John Stubley and Susanna (?). Thomas Stubley was baptized on 20 February 1702/3 at Birstall as son of John Stubley of Heckmondwike. I was unable to find this entry in fiches, some of which are unreadable, but it is shown in the transcripts, which incorporate information from Bishop's Transcripts.¹

Thomas Stubley, described as of Batley, married Sarah Williamson on 28 June 1727 at Dewsbury Thomas is described as of Batley.²
Thomas Stubley was possibly the Thomas accused by a Henry and William Popplewell of Hawksworth of stealing a sheep from their father William in 1741 its carcase, identified by a mark on the fleece, having been found in Thomas's barn. Thomas denied knowledge of how it came to be in the old barn, which was part fallen in and open.
Again we know nothing of the outcome, but I have found no further trace of Thomas around Guiseley. A period spent in that area does, however, correspond with a break in children born to Thomas in Batley. If he escaped being severely penalised, he may still have been obliged to leave the area.
The Popplewell involvement in both cases may be significant. If Thomas and his brother Abraham are who I suppose, then they had a sister Ann who married a William Popplewell in Birstall.³

     David Stubley was born in 1742 at Batley. He was the son of Thomas Stubley and Sarah Williamson. David Stubley was baptized on 26 September 1742 at Parish Church, Batley, as son of Thomas Stubley, clothier.¹
