     Mark Oldroyd was born on 30 May 1843. He was the son of Mark Oldroyd and Rachel Fox. Abandoning an intial intention of going into the Church, in 1862 Mark Oldroyd joined his father's firm.
In 1874 the Dewsbury firm was formed into a limited liabilty company with Mark Oldroyd and John Oldroyd as directors. In 1877 Mark Oldroyd took the lead in devolping the business whn his brother left the firm, and oversaw considerable expansion.
Between 1887 and 1888 Mark Oldroyd was was mayor of Dewsbury.
This was followed by becoming Liberal MP for the Borough in 1888.

In 1889 An account in the Times said that George Sheard had been selected to stand as Conservative candidate for the Dewsbury seat, in opposition to Mr Mark Oldroyd , described as the Gladstonian member, but he decided not to stand.¹
In 1909 Mark Oldroyd was knighted.
He died on 5 July 1927 at age 84.

     Aquilla Dodgson married Jane Oldroyd, daughter of Mark Oldroyd and Rachel Fox, in 1863.

     Timothy Watson was born circa 1766. He was the son of John Watson and Mary Shepley. Timothy Watson was baptized on 10 May 1766 at Felkirk.

     John Watson was born in 1757. He was the son of John Watson and Mary Shepley. John Watson was baptized on 15 October 1757 at Felkirk.

     Charlotte Watson was born in 1761. She was the daughter of John Watson and Mary Shepley. Charlotte Watson was baptized on 9 September 1761 at Felkirk.

     Frances Watson was born in 1763. She was the daughter of John Watson and Mary Shepley. Frances Watson was baptized on 17 October 1763 at Felkirk.

     Ben Terry was born circa 1852. He was the son of George Terry and Isabella Hall.

     Sarah Scholefield was born on 8 November 1808. She was the daughter of John Scholefield and Hannah Denison. Sarah Scholefield was baptized on 21 January 1809 at Batley as Sarah daughter of John Scholefield farmer son of Richard by Hannah his wife daughter of Robt. Denison.¹

     Samuel Wilson married Elizabeth Shepley, daughter of Joshua Shepley and Ann (?).

     Susanna Goodall married Martin Willans, son of John Willans and Hannah Thurman, on 19 February 1765 at Birstall.¹

     Mary's date and place of birth are not known. Mary Bigland was the daughter of Joseph Bigland and Elizabeth Shepley.

     Anne Bigland was born circa 1727 if age of 22 given on marriage bond of 1749 is correct. She was the daughter of Joseph Bigland and Elizabeth Shepley.
Anne Bigland is likely to have been the Ann Bigland to whom a marriage bond relates. This authorised the marriage of Ann to Samuel Wormald on October 24th 1749 at one of three possible churches in York.¹

     Jane's date and place of birth are not known. Jane Bigland was the daughter of Joseph Bigland and Elizabeth Shepley.

     Samuel Joseph Chadwick married Fanny Upton Wooler, daughter of James Upton Wooler and Anne Sykes, in 1869.

     Edith C Chadwick was born circa 1871 at Mirfield. She was the daughter of Samuel Joseph Chadwick and Fanny Upton Wooler.

     Margaret Chadwick was born circa 1876 at Mirfield. She was the daughter of Samuel Joseph Chadwick and Fanny Upton Wooler.

     Elizabeth Cowling was born circa 1792. She married George Sheard, son of Jonas Sheard and Dinah Kirk, on 11 March 1811 at Batley by banns. I now believe this to be his third marriage. Witnesses were Jeremiah Chadwick and another name which is hard to read, possibly Webster. This explains a marriage which it has been hard to fit into my researches into the Batley Sheards, and a newspaper entry speaks of the groom aged 72 (this is a year out, but in his 72nd year) as father of nine, grandfather of forty-six, and great-grandfather of six all said to be living. If we discount some who died these numbers are of the right order for this George. Elizabeth was said to be only 19!^1,2

     Jane A Colbeck was born on 27 February 1871 at Batley.¹ She was the daughter of Joseph Colbeck and Elinor Hargreaves. In the census of 2 April 1871 she was listed as the daughter of Joseph Colbeck at High Street, Batley.²
In the census of 3 April 1881 she was listed as a scholar the daughter of Joseph Colbeck at Birch Street, Batley.³
Jane A Colbeck died on 16 October 1883 at age 12.^4,1

     Harry Colbeck was born in 1891 at Batley. He was the son of Joseph Colbeck and Elinor Hargreaves. In the census of 5 April 1891 he was listed as aged 1 month the son of Joseph Colbeck at The Crown Hotel, Batley.¹

     Mary Ann Sykes was born circa 1850 at Batley. She married Joseph Colbeck, son of John Colbeck and Jane (?), in 1895.¹
In the census of 31 March 1901 Mary Ann Colbeck was listed at 83 Commercial Street (Crown Hotel", Batley, as wife of Joseph Colbeck.²
Mary Ann Sykes died on 21 January 1917; aged 67 years.^3,4

     Eliza Pickles married Joshua Walshaw on 6 January 1859 at Birstall at the time of his marriage Joshua was described as a boiler-maker, son of blacksmith Joseph Walshaw. Witnesses were Samuel Wharton and George Bromly.¹
