"I give and bequeath to my daughter Ann Chadwick and her heirs for ever my house att Carlinghaugh, in the parish and Township of Batley aforesd, now in the possession or occupation of William Chadwick, my Son in Law, together with the Garth or Little close in which it stands, and all the Rights, emoluments, and appurtences thereunto in any wise belonging or appertaining.2"

He married Anne Eton on 15 December 1692 at St Peter, Huddersfield.2
On 29 October 1694 Marmaduke Shepley was appointed trustee of Batley Grammar School.3
In 1696 Marmaduke Shepley was Constable of Batley.4
In 1698 Marmaduke Shepley was trustee and also one of supervisors of will of Joshua Brooke of Batley.5
In 1701 Marmaduke Shepley was Overseer of the Poor.6
He made his will on 4 October 1722 He appointed his wife sole executrix with the request that Thomas Rhodes, clerk, and Jeremy Shepley, his brother, would aid and assist her.
He mentions his own residence at Healey, but also properties at Carlinghow.7
He died in 1722 at Batley.
He was buried on 17 October 1722.

     Jeremiah Shepley was born in 1699. He was the son of Marmaduke Shepley and Anne Eton. Jeremiah Shepley was baptized on 16 May 1699 at Batley.1

He, transcribed as Jeremy Shepherd of Batley, married Jane Raynor of Scholecroft on 18 August 1725 at St. Peter's, Leeds,
by licence.
At the time of obtaining probate for his mother's will in 1734 Jeremiah was described as of Morley.
On 8 July 1734 Jeremiah Shepley was appointed a trustee of Batley Grammar Scool.
In 1741 Jeremiah Shepley voted for George Fox, the Tory candidate, in the parliamentary election for the County . The seat was won by the Whig candidate, Mr Cholmley Turner.
In 1742 Jeremiah Shepley was a tithe gatherer, and it must have been in this connection that he prepared the map shown here, surveyed for John Copley Esquire.

Jeremiah Shepley died on 13 February 1745/46; described as of Schole Croft.3

We learn of Joseph and Elizabeth's daughters from the will of their grandmother Ann Shepley signed on 8 April 1734 in which she leaves six pounds to be divided between them and her other grandaughter, Mary Shepley.
Elizabeth Shepley died before 31 July 1745; when she was referred to as deceased in her brother Jeremiah's will.

     A marriage bond referring to Joseph Bigland of St Crux, York aged 26 and Elizabeth Shipley of Batley, 25, gives a marriage date of 29 August 1721 at Batley, Dewsbury or Wakefield Parish Church.
Joseph Bigland married Elizabeth Shepley, daughter of Marmaduke Shepley and Anne Eton, on 28 September 1721 at The Parish Church, Batley Described as Joseph Bigland of the Parish of St Cross in York and Elizabeth Shepley of Batley, married by Licence.1
The will of Elizabeth's father Marmaduke Shepley leaves forty pounds to his daughter Elizabeth Bigland, to be left to her or her husband Joseph Bigland within two years after his decease, provided that she or a child of hers is alive at that time.2
