Ann Driver

#6977, b. circa 1814
Ann Driver was born circa 1814 at Halifax. She married Joseph Hall, son of John Hall and Sarah Gledhill, on 23 April 1835 at Batley.1
In the census of 6 June 1841 Ann Hall was listed at New Batley as wife of Joseph Hall.2
In the census of 1851 Ann Hall was listed at Clerk Green, Batley, as wife of Joseph Hall.3
In the census of 7 April 1861 Ann Hall was listed at New Street, Batley, as wife of Joseph Hall.4
In the census of 2 April 1871 Ann Hall was listed at New Street, Batley, as wife of Joseph Hall.5
In the census of 3 April 1881 Ann Hall was listed at New Street, Batley, as wife of Joseph Hall.6
This and the earlier census tell a sad story, for in 1871 Ann was listed as "appeletic", perhaps an attempt at epileptic, and in 1881 she is lsited as an imbecile.

Richard Newsome was born circa 1797 at Ipswich, Suffolk. He was the son of Richard Newsome and Mary Dixon. I have not found a baptism fo Richard Newsome, but I believe him to be the son of Richard and Mary. It would seem less likely that we would find a Newsome with family roots elsewhere established as a woollen manufacturer in Batley by 1851 than one with local connections. Also we know that his father had spent some time away from Batley, and this Richard uses Dixon, his mother's maiden name, as a middle name for one of his sons.

Richard Newsome married Maria (?).
In the census of 30 March 1851 he was listed as the head of household at Havercroft, Batley, as a cloth manufacturer employing 8 men and 11 women.1
