Relationship=1st cousin 5 times removed of Vivien Eley.
Richard Newsome was born circa 1797 at Ipswich, Suffolk. He was the son of Richard Newsome and Mary Dixon. I have not found a baptism fo Richard Newsome, but I believe him to be the son of Richard and Mary. It would seem less likely that we would find a Newsome with family roots elsewhere established as a woollen manufacturer in Batley by 1851 than one with local connections. Also we know that his father had spent some time away from Batley, and this Richard uses Dixon, his mother's maiden name, as a middle name for one of his sons.
Richard Newsome married Maria (?).
In the census of 30 March 1851 he was listed as the head of household at Havercroft, Batley, as a cloth manufacturer employing 8 men and 11 women.1
In the census of 7 April 1861 he was listed as the head of household at Wellington Street, Batley, as a landed proprietor.2
Richard Newsome died in 1863. He was buried on 19 April 1863 at Batley ; aged 66.3
