In the census of 3 April 1881 she was listed as aged 1 month the daughter of John Sheard at Bleak House, Upper Batley, Batley.2
In the census of 31 March 1901 she was listed as the daughter of Margaret Maria Hodgson Hogg at 165 Hyde Park Road, Headingley, Leeds.3
Ellen Sheard and Margaret Maria Hodgson Sheard emigrated in 1909 to Canada sailing on the "Tunisian" from Liverpool. Ellen Sheard married John McMurchy on 2 October 1909 at York, Toronto, Canada.
In the census of June 1911 Ellen McMurchy was listed at Brampton, Ontario, Canada, as wife of John McMurchy.4
In 1914 Ellen McMurchy made a prolonged visit to England, arriving in Liverpool on the "Hesperian" on the 12th of March, and sailing back to Canada on the "Calgarian", arriving in Quebec on the 9th of July. with her mother, daughter and youngest step-son.5

     Samuel Sheard was born in 1828. He was the son of David Sheard and Martha Talbot.
Samuel Sheard was baptized on 1 June 1828 at Batley.1
He appeared on the census of 6 June 1841 with his mother and her second husband George Sheard at New Batley, Batley.2
In the census of 30 March 1851 he was listed as the head of household at Havercroft, Batley, Foreman, woollen manufactory.3
Samuel Sheard married Agnes Sheard, daughter of James Sheard and Ann Colbeck, on 13 November 1851 at Batley witnesses were Caleb Burnley and Joseph Parker.1
In 1855 Samuel Sheard received £250 in will of his uncle George Sheard, adjusted according to any debts owing to George.

He and Henry Sheard were for a time in partnership as manufacturers with Samuel Senior but he withdrew from the partnership on on 30 December 1857.4 The firm were listed as at Victoria Mill under the heading of Blanket Manufacturers and again under the heading of Woollen Manufacturers.5
Samuel Sheard and Henry Sheard with Samuel Seniorwere also among some dozen partners in Toad Pipes Mill, another company venture, where cloth finishing appears to have been carried out, for in 1857 finishing machinery was offered for sale. Soon after that the mill was sold.
In 1859 Samuel Sheard was listed in the Poll Book at Wellington Street, Batley.
In the census of 7 April 1861 he was listed as the head of household at Wellington Street, Batley, as a wool cloth manufacturer.6
The partnership between brothers Samuel Sheard and Henry Sheard in the trade of woollen manufacturers, trading as Sheards and Senior or under any other name was dissolved on on 10 June 1861 Stock in hand was offered for sale, and consisted of plain and figured pilots, reversibles, coatings, etc.4,7
In the census of 2 April 1871 he was listed as the head of household at 15 St George's Square, Batley, as a widower, a commission merchant.8
Samuel Sheard married Sophia Chappell, daughter of John Helliwell, on 6 August 1872 at St Thomas, Batley.9,10
In the census of 3 April 1881 he was listed as the head of household at Park Road (Stanley Terrace), Batley, as a commission agent.11
In the census of 5 April 1891 he was listed as the head of household at Grosvenor Road, Batley, as an oil merchant.12
In the census of 31 March 1901 he was listed as the head of household at 15 Grosvenor Road as a widower, an oil merchant (the word colour is written above this.13
Samuel Sheard died on 29 October 1907.14
