     Ellen Sheard was born on 9 March 1881 at Batley.¹ She was the daughter of John Sheard and Margaret Maria Hodgson Hogg.
In the census of 3 April 1881 she was listed as aged 1 month the daughter of John Sheard at Bleak House, Upper Batley, Batley.²
In the census of 31 March 1901 she was listed as the daughter of Margaret Maria Hodgson Hogg at 165 Hyde Park Road, Headingley, Leeds.³
Ellen Sheard and Margaret Maria Hodgson Sheard emigrated in 1909 to Canada sailing on the "Tunisian" from Liverpool. Ellen Sheard married John McMurchy on 2 October 1909 at York, Toronto, Canada.
In the census of June 1911 Ellen McMurchy was listed at Brampton, Ontario, Canada, as wife of John McMurchy.⁴
In 1914 Ellen McMurchy made a prolonged visit to England, arriving in Liverpool on the "Hesperian" on the 12th of March, and sailing back to Canada on the "Calgarian", arriving in Quebec on the 9th of July. with her mother, daughter and youngest step-son.⁵

     Samuel Sheard was born in 1828. He was the son of David Sheard and Martha Talbot.
Samuel Sheard was baptized on 1 June 1828 at Batley.¹
He appeared on the census of 6 June 1841 with his mother and her second husband George Sheard at New Batley, Batley.²
In the census of 30 March 1851 he was listed as the head of household at Havercroft, Batley, Foreman, woollen manufactory.³
Samuel Sheard married Agnes Sheard, daughter of James Sheard and Ann Colbeck, on 13 November 1851 at Batley witnesses were Caleb Burnley and Joseph Parker.¹
In 1855 Samuel Sheard received £250 in will of his uncle George Sheard, adjusted according to any debts owing to George.

He and Henry Sheard were for a time in partnership as manufacturers with Samuel Senior but he withdrew from the partnership on on 30 December 1857.⁴ The firm were listed as at Victoria Mill under the heading of Blanket Manufacturers and again under the heading of Woollen Manufacturers.⁵
Samuel Sheard and Henry Sheard with Samuel Seniorwere also among some dozen partners in Toad Pipes Mill, another company venture, where cloth finishing appears to have been carried out, for in 1857 finishing machinery was offered for sale. Soon after that the mill was sold.
In 1859 Samuel Sheard was listed in the Poll Book at Wellington Street, Batley.
In the census of 7 April 1861 he was listed as the head of household at Wellington Street, Batley, as a wool cloth manufacturer.⁶
The partnership between brothers Samuel Sheard and Henry Sheard in the trade of woollen manufacturers, trading as Sheards and Senior or under any other name was dissolved on on 10 June 1861 Stock in hand was offered for sale, and consisted of plain and figured pilots, reversibles, coatings, etc.^4,7
In the census of 2 April 1871 he was listed as the head of household at 15 St George's Square, Batley, as a widower, a commission merchant.⁸
Samuel Sheard married Sophia Chappell, daughter of John Helliwell, on 6 August 1872 at St Thomas, Batley.^9,10
In the census of 3 April 1881 he was listed as the head of household at Park Road (Stanley Terrace), Batley, as a commission agent.¹¹
In the census of 5 April 1891 he was listed as the head of household at Grosvenor Road, Batley, as an oil merchant.¹²
In the census of 31 March 1901 he was listed as the head of household at 15 Grosvenor Road as a widower, an oil merchant (the word colour is written above this.¹³
Samuel Sheard died on 29 October 1907.¹⁴

     Annetta Sheard was born on 20 December 1854. She was the daughter of Samuel Sheard and Agnes Sheard. Annetta Sheard was baptized on 21 January 1855 at Batley.¹

In the census of 2 April 1871 she was listed as aged 16 the daughter of Samuel Sheard at 15 St George's Square, Batley.³

Annetta Sheard appeared as a nurse on the census of 3 April 1881 in the household of John Sheard at Bleak House, Upper Batley, Batley.⁴ Annetta Sheard married Walter Whincup England on 22 November 1888 at The Parish Church, Batley.⁵
In the census of 5 April 1891 Annetta England was listed at 9 Parliament Street, Bilton with Harrogate, as wife of Walter Whincup England.⁶

     Ann Pitt was the daughter of George Pitt. Ann Pitt married Abraham Newsome, son of John Newsome and Rachel Healey, on 16 August 1846 at Batley.

     Hannah Newsome was born in 1825. She was the daughter of John Newsome and Rachel Healey. Hannah Newsome was baptized on 24 July 1825 at Batley.¹
In the census of 6 June 1841 she was listed as the daughter of John Newsome at Batley Carr.²

     Betsy Newsome died ?unknown. She was born in 1849. She was the daughter of Abraham Newsome and Ann Pitt.

     John Newsome was born in 1848. He was the son of Abraham Newsome and Ann Pitt.

     Rachel Newsome was born in 1856. She was the daughter of Abraham Newsome and Ann Pitt.

     Sara Ellen Newsome was born in 1858. She was the daughter of Abraham Newsome and Ann Pitt.

     Mary Jane Stubley was born on 10 June 1838. She was the daughter of Richard Stubley and Jane Fox. Mary Jane Stubley was baptized on 15 July 1838 at Batley.¹
She died in 1840. She was buried on 27 June 1840 at Batley ; aged 2.¹

     Harriet Stubley was born on 28 April 1840. She was the daughter of Richard Stubley and Jane Fox. Harriet Stubley was baptized on 7 June 1840 at Parish Church, Batley.¹
In the census of 6 June 1841 se was listed as aged 1 the granddaughter of James Fox.² In the census of 30 March 1851 she was listed as a rag sorter the daughter of Richard Stubley at Havercroft, Batley.³

     John Stubley was born on 17 July 1842. He was the son of Richard Stubley and Jane Fox. In the census of 30 March 1851 he was listed as a scholar the son of Richard Stubley at Havercroft, Batley.¹
John Stubley married Mary Ann Crossley in 1861.²
In the census of 2 April 1871 he was listed as the head of household at Blakeridge Lane, Batley, as an overlooker.³
John Stubley died on 13 July 1910 at age 67.

Richard Denton Stubley and Mary Stubleywith their daughter Ellen Stubley emigrated in 1905 to America, following Mary's brother Milner Kemp who had been established there for some time, sailing to New York on the Caronia and arriving on the 25th October.^5,6 Richard Denton Stubley died on 15 November 1923 at Corning, New York, at age 71.

     William James Stubley was born on 5 July 1856. He was the son of Richard Stubley and Jane Fox. William James Stubley was baptized on 12 April 1857 at Parish Church, Batley.¹

     Richard Stubley was born on 21 August 1861. He was the son of Richard Stubley and Jane Fox. Richard Stubley was baptized on 22 September 1861 at Batley.¹

     Hannah Newsome was born in 1823. She was the daughter of William Newsome and Mary Stubley. Hannah Newsome was baptized on 2 November 1823 at Batley.

     Thomas Knowles was described as a tanner at the baptisms of his children.
He was probably the one baptized on 21 December 1743 at Batley as son of William Knowles, clothier.¹
He was the son of William Knowles. Thomas Knowles married Mary Walker, daughter of Joseph Walker, on 21 May 1775 at Dewsbury.²
Thomas Knowles died on 9 September 1818 at age 74. He was buried on 13 September 1818 at Batley ; aged 74.¹

     Mary Walker was the daughter of Joseph Walker. Mary Walker married Thomas Knowles, son of William Knowles, on 21 May 1775 at Dewsbury.¹

     James Hopkinson died ?unknown. He was born in 1763. He was the son of James Hopkinson and Hannah Boys. James Hopkinson was baptized on 25 December 1763 at Birstall.¹

     John Senior was born in 1839. He was the son of Samuel Senior and Harriot Lodge. John Senior was baptized on 7 July 1839.
In the census of 6 June 1841 he was listed as aged 2 in the household of Ann Senior at Skelmanthorpe.¹
In the census of 30 March 1851 he was listed as as a bobbin winder aged 11 the son of an unknown person at Park Gate, Skelmanthorpe.²

     Mary Dixon was the daughter of Joseph Dixon. Mary Dixon married Richard Newsome, son of Squire Newsome and Mary Scarfe, on 6 January 1793 at Birmingham.
