     George Blakeley was born on 4 November 1806. He was the son of Joseph Blakeley and Mary Sheard. George Blakeley was baptized on 25 December 1806 at Batley.
He married Elizabeth Crawshaw, daughter of Philip Crawshaw and Susanna Senior, on 22 January 1829 at Dewsbury.
In the census of 6 June 1841 he was listed as the head of household at Batley Carr Road, Dewsbury, as a rag merchant.1
In the census of 30 March 1851 he was listed as the head of household at Hirst House, Batley Carr, Batley, as a manufacturer, firm of 2 employing 14 men and 44 women.2
In the census of 7 April 1861 he was listed as the head of household at Holling Royd House, Dewsbury, as a Merchant (woollen) Two female servants are kept.3
George Blakeley died on 2 April 1865 at age 58. J Willans mentions George as one of several Dewsbury gentlemen who had set up factories on the continent, and it may have been that these were set up at his instigation, but it was his son Benjamin who my researches revealed as living in Berlin for a time, whilst later another son, George Stanhope Blakeley, was involved with a business elsewhere in Germany.4,5
He made a will under 20K.
He had been in partnership with his sons Benjamin Blakeley and Edward Blakeley until his death.6

     Joseph Blackburn was born in 1802. He was the son of William Blackburn and Martha (?). Joseph Blackburn was baptized on 9 May 1802 at Dewsbury as son of William and Martha of Batley.1
He married Martha Castle on 4 December 1828 at Batley witnesses John Chadwick, Joseph Bevers.2
In the census of 6 June 1841 he was listed as the head of household at Staincliffe, Batley, as a sizing dealer.3
Joseph Blackburn and Ellen Hepworth appear to be neighbours at Staincliffe in 1841. In 1842 Joseph Blackburn was listed as a sizing boiler in a Leeds district directory.4
He married Rachel Parr, daughter of Thomas Parr and Sarah Auty, on 7 October 1850 at Batley Both make their marks. Witnesses Thomas Hargreaves and Thomas Brearley.2
In the census of 30 March 1851 he was listed as the head of household at Havercroft, Batley, as a clothier.5
In the census of 7 April 1861 Joseph Blackburn was listed as as a warehouseman aged 58.6 He was probably the one buried on 29 July 1868 at Batley.2,7

In the census of 30 March 1851 he was listed as the head of household at New Street, Batley, as a woollen cloth fuller aged 43. There are three lodgers.3
In the census of 7 April 1861 he was listed as the head of household at Cobden St, Batley, late woollen cloth fuller. John Walton, 37, a lodger, is also present.4
James Blackburn died in 1870. He was buried on 10 May 1870 at Batley.5

She was the daughter of Edwin Wilson and Martha Jane Fox. Emma Wilson was baptized on 23 June 1872 at Batley.1
In the census of 3 April 1881 she was listed as a scholar aged 9, the granddaughter of Rachel Shackleton.2
In the census of 5 April 1891 she was listed as aged 19, living on own means the sister of Herbert Wilson.3
Emma Wilson married John Sheard Blackburn, son of John William Blackburn and Eliza Rebecca Sheard, in 1894.4,5

     John Herbert Blackburn was born on 22 June 1895. He was the son of John Sheard Blackburn and Emma Wilson. In the census of 31 March 1901 he was listed as the son of John Sheard Blackburn at Ivy Dene, Batley.1
John Herbert Blackburn was educated;  at Batley Grammar School and at Giggleswick.2 He was employed by in the family business at Batley Old Mill.

He began military service a few months after was broke out, in 1914 securing a commission in the K.O.Y.L.I, and for a long time did duty as a musketry officer. Early in August 1916 he went to France, and on the last day of the month he was wounded in the knee and shoulder. The wounds were not serious and after recovery he was engaged for a time on home duty. It was on January 5th 1917 that he returned to the Front. He was soon admitted to hospital suffering from bronchitis and pleurisy, and initial hopes of recovery were not to be fulfilled.2
He died on 8 February 1917 at France aged 21. He was buried at Lijssenththoek Military Cemetery, Poperinghe.

     Vyner Graham M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. was born in 1870 at Dewsbury.1 He was the son of Tom Graham and Elisabeth (?). Vyner Graham M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. married Sarah Alice Blackburn, daughter of John William Blackburn and Eliza Rebecca Sheard, on 14 June 1898 at Batley.2 Vyner Graham M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. was in practice at Doncaster.
He witnessed the marriage of Ann Eliza Blackburn and Norman William Eley on 20 December 1906 at Zion Chapel, Batley.3

Vyner Graham M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. was Medical Officer to the 5th King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, part of the 49th West Riding Division, and served with them in France  between 1914 and 1918. He died in 1934.

     Emma Beatrice Binns was born on 15 January 1885 at Bradford.1 She was the daughter of John Binns and Hannah Clayton. Emma Beatrice Binns married Harry Blackburn, son of John William Blackburn and Eliza Rebecca Sheard, on 7 November 1909 at Zion Chapel, Batley, An account of the marriage from a local paper describes Emma as niece of Mr Simon Cooper of Field Hill, Batley.
We are told that "The bride was attired in a charming costume of fawn faced cloth, handsomely trimmed with fancy black silk braid and bands of silk satin, finished off with hanging ornaments of jet. The suit was completed with a waistcoat of gold and white brocade silk. She also wore a lovely picture hat of black panne velvet draped with tulle and handsome feathers."1

After a time Emma Beatrice and Harry moved into "The Laurels" in Upper Batley, a house which apears to be an adaptation of the outbuildings of Samuel Senior's "The Rookery".1,2
In the census of 2 April 1911 Emma Beatrice Blackburn was listed at Mostyn Villa, Batley, as wife of Harry Blackburn.3
Emma Beatrice Blackburn was left a weekly allowance in her father-in-law John William Blackburn's will of on 3 July 1936.
Emma Beatrice Blackburn died on 2 July 1979 at Enfield, New South Wales, Australia, at age 94.1

In the census of 31 March 1901 he was listed as a solicitor's clerk, the son of William Parker at 3 Rutland Road, Batley.2
Victor Barnett Parker married Beatrice Blackburn, daughter of John William Blackburn and Eliza Rebecca Sheard, in 1910 at Zion Chapel, Batley.3

     May Garbutt was born in 1888. She was the daughter of James Garbutt and Hannah Mary Smith. May Garbutt married Fred Blackburn, son of John William Blackburn and Eliza Rebecca Sheard, on 14 April 1909 at Brownhill Church, Birstall, The bridesmaids were Miss Garbutt, Miss Blackburn (sister of the groom, and presumably Beatrice as the eldest unmarried daughter), and Miss Nora Sheard, niece of the bride. The best man was Mr Victor Parker, who was later to marry Beatrice Blackburn, and groomsman was Mr. E. C.Garbutt. Among the guests were Dr and Mrs Eley with Master Brian Eley, my father, who was just four days short of his first birthday.1


May Garbutt died on 26 November 1966 at Bradford; aged 78.
