Walter Bagshaw was born on 19 August 1851 at Dewsbury. He was the son of John Bagshaw and Ann Horsfield.
In the census of 7 April 1861 he was listed as a scholar the son of John Bagshaw at Albert Terrace, Batley.1
Walter Bagshaw was educated firstly at John Osborne's school in Batley, then at Batley Grammar School.
He attended classes at the Batley Mechanic's Institute, later the Town Hall, and obtained a first Class certificate in advanced Applied Mathematics. Later studies are said to have been at Wesley College, Sheffield, the Yorkshire College in Leeds, where he was able to specialise in engineering subjects.2,3
Between 1871 and 1875 Walter Bagshaw was successively employed as a draughtsman at Beeley's Boilerworks, Hyde Junction, near Manchester, at Kitson's famous locomotive works, Leeds, and finally with Messrs Buckley and Taylor, engineers, of Oldham, one of the leading firms of Lancashire.4
He was listed as a draughtsman in the census of 2 April 1871 at West Bank, Newton, Cheshire, lodging with Henry John Atkinson (?).

The Victoria Foundry
in 1875 Walter Bagshaw became the manager of the firm of John Bagshaw and Sons, Victoria Foundry, founded by his father.
The firm had a wide reputation at home and abroad, providing ironwork for buildings, bridges, tramways and a diversity of other applications. Locally commissions included "fireproof" construction for several mills, including part of Hick Lane Mill and Taylors' Blakeridge Mill, and the ironwork for the Batley Waterworks.

In 1878 Walter Bagshaw became a partner in the firm.
He was listed in the census of 3 April 1881 at Grosvenor Road, Batley, as a mechanical engineer.5

Walter Bagshaw married Julia Taylor, daughter of Joshua Taylor and Alice Cooke, on 25 March 1885.
In 1891 Walter Bagshaw became chairman of the directors of John Bagshaw and Sons, Victoria Foundry.4
In the census of 5 April 1891 he was listed as the head of household at Bridge Street, Batley, as an iron founder.6
In 1893 Walter Bagshaw was the first President of Batley Technical School.
In the census of 31 March 1901 he was listed as the head of household at Moorfield House, Birkenshaw, as a mechanical engineer. A cook and housekeper are employed.7
He retired in 1907.4

In 1909 The Woodlands Estate, with some four and a half acres of land having been acquired by Batley Corporation the 6th Earl of Wilton, Seymour Edward Frederick Egerton donated twenty-eight and a half acres of woodland for a public park.8

The Bagshaw Museum
in 1910 Walter Bagshaw offered to furnish one room of "The Woodlands" formerly home of George Sheard as a museum. He was honorary curator, and, largely through his efforts, by his death in 1927 there was a substantial collection.

In May of 1913 Walter was in Berlin in company with John William Blackburn, at a time when the King was also expected in Berlin.9

Walter Bagshaw died on 26 April 1927 at age 75.
Walter Bagshaw was honoured by having the Woodlands, then referred to as the Wilton Park Mansion, re-named The Bagshaw Museum in his honour.

Ann Colbeck was born circa 1810. She was the daughter of William Colbeck and Elizabeth Richardson. We have not found a baptism for Anne, but she was described as his eldest daughter in her father's will. Clive Mason has kindly sent me this photograph of a sampler she made as a girl.

Ann Colbeck married James Sheard, son of Jonas Sheard and Eleanor Hey, on 30 August 1830 at Batley They were married on the same day as Elizabeth Colbeck and Joseph Senior. Witnesses were the same for both marriages, Thos Wilby and Will Mayman.1
In the census of 6 June 1841 Ann Sheard was listed at Commercial St, Batley, as wife of James Sheard.2,3
Sadly James died later that year, but for some years his widow carried on as hostess of the Wilton, where many local meetings and functions were held.
On the repeal of the Corn Laws, 1846 , among other Batley celebrations, it was Ann who provided a celebratory dinner at the Wilton Arms for the jubilant Committee of the local Anti-Corn Law Association, with a band in attendance.4
Ann Sheard married Edmund Augustus Parker on 4 December 1848 at Batley At marriage Ann gives her father's name as William Colbeck, grocer.1
In the census of 30 March 1851 Ann Parker was listed at Havercroft, Batley, as wife of Edmund Augustus Parker.5
In the census of 7 April 1861 Ann Parker was listed at Colbeck Row, Batley, as wife of Edmund Augustus Parker.6
