He married Elizabeth Pyrah, daughter of Benjamin Pyrah and Sally Firth, on 19 January 1817 at Batley Both wrote their names clearly. The marriage was witnessed by William Parr and Thomas Lee.1
In 1829 Jeremiah Hudswell was listed in a Dewsbury directory as a horse clothing manufacturer.2
In the census of 6 June 1841 he was listed as the head of household at Up Lane, Batley, as a clothier.3
In the census of 30 March 1851 he was listed as the head of household at Up Lane, Batley, as a woollen manufacturer. A grandson, Edwin aged 2 is also present.4
He died on 3 August 1852 aged 57 years.5
Jeremiah Hudswell was probably the Jerre Hudswell to whom Samuel Colbeck refers as "saving Batley" during the hard times of the late 1830s. , saying:-
"Batley was in a very bad state. Cotton had fallen and shoddy had made very little progress. A man called Jerre Hudswell secured some government contracts for coverlets, and that saved Batley. We got into coverlet weaving. Jerre Hudswell found work for a great number of people. I applied for a job and got one, taking my own loom with me."6
